BLEMISHED

They say eventually life comes to a full circle- what goes around comes back around. The circle is such a simple, humble shape yet it means so much more to us than just being ordinary. The circle of life stands for the everlasting cycle of being alive.

Being alive should be synonyms to feeling free, to feeling true to ourselves and loving oneself but are we truly ever free? In this age where memes are replacing      actually talking about feelings and anorexia is being used a slang and not treated like a disease how can we be alive? We just exist.

Fashion has more power to shape minds than we give it credit for. I myself have been on the other side of the screen , laughing at articles like these but when you do cross that bridge- when you do see the beauty in simplicity you realise there is a world beyond labels and hot gossip, a world that truly makes you happy.

I collaborated with BUNA studio for this series as no other brand could have done justice to epitomise experiencing love and freedom for ourselves like BUNA does. From the fabric to the silhouettes there is a little something for everyone in all shapes and all sizes. The easy cotton tie up top which bounces in the wind as you hum a tune to yourself, the bindi dress that glides with you while you cook your favourite meal. Everything at BUNA gives me the freedom to love myself and what I do.

As a teenager I had severe acne till I blossomed into womanhood and now I just have acne scars on my back. I’ve been asked, mocked and told repeatedly ” kuch treatment kyu nahi karati” and I don’t lose my cool on all these silly remarks about me (yes, my body – not yours buddy). It’s because that doesn’t phase me. The little circular scars on my back don’t make me love myself any less, if anything I embrace it because it shows I have the strength in me to let go of the labels that society has pinned up at some ludicrous standards of beauty.4

This is not a sob story about a girl with a few pimples but if you are a girl with a few pimples and it bothers you – know that you are not alone and will never be. Not because there are others like you but because you’ll always have yourself, truly.

  1. Aanchal, you and your flowy fabrics will forever enchant me. I love the simplicity of the two outfits here and hey, you are right about being okay with our blemishes. I got tons. I used to get quite upset comparing myself mindlessly with others. And then, I slowly started a journey of self-acceptance as I embrace my quirks, face and back acne and boldly declare to myself that I am alright the way I am. I take care of my body and spirit and if there’s a way to ‘better’ any part of it, I do it with love. Not with a mindset that I lack something. Thank you for this post, I love getting motivated by you! 😀 x

    1. I am so glad to hear that 🙂
